Finite Element Analysis
We carry out in-house Finite Element Analysis of complex or highly stressed components. Finite Element Analysis is used in conjunction with hand calcs to refine engineering design.
Stiffening Of Turret Rail on GPIII
An investigation was carried out into additional stiffeners welded onto the turret rail of the FPSO as a result of reported weaknesses in similar turret rails. The high stress areas are as a consequence of a 1500 tonne gripping force and a 300 tonne turning force.
Design and Build New Chain Gypsies
The design, manufacture and installation of new Chain Gypsies for the Texaco Captain FPSO. As a result of a chain mechanism failure the chain gypsies were redesigned to cope with a design load off 300Te and capable of withstanding the possibility of a turret break-out. New support hangers, new bearings and a split construction were specified for ease of installation.
New Grippers for Gryphon 'A'
After 14 years in service the original grippers on the Maersk FPSO Gryphon 'A' have recently been replaced with new Whittaker grippers. Based on the grippers supplied to the GPIII and Texaco Captain the gripper design has been enhanced and tweeked by FE Analysis to reduce stress and improve performance.
Refinement of Eye on Aluminium Hydraulic Cylinder
This is an example of how FE Analysis can reduce material and refine an existing design.
Analysis of ROV Bottom Frame Members Under Load
This is an example of how the chassis frame members react under load.
